Do you ever feel stuck and unsure what to post on social media?
It’s easy to get stuck in a rut of just sharing images of your finished products, but people want to see more than just pretty pictures. They want to see behind the scenes, they want to see where you work, and it doesn’t matter if it’s not pretty.
It’s real and people love authenticity on social media.
So don’t be afraid to experiment a little and show a bit more of what makes your business happen, rather than just sharing your product photos.
1. Work in progress
Show people what you are working on, what’s next on your list, tag customers when you get to their order and show their fabric under the needles, photograph your work throughout the day and add them to stories on Facebook and Instagram.
2. Finished product
Pretty styled photos, flatlays, modelled shots, lifestyle images. Show your products being used or in their everyday setting.
3. Packaging
What type of packaging do you use? It is recycled/upcycled? Do you personalise or handwrite notes to your customers? Photograph your packaging supplies, or your finished parcels ready to be shipped. Show your customers how you make their order special.
4. Your workspace
Share a photo of your desk or sewing table, people love seeing behind the scenes of your business. photograph your sewing room or where you sew. It doesn’t matter if it’s not Pinterest worthy, people love seeing real life, not picture perfect over styled photos. Let your character and personality come through.
5. Happy customers
Ask your customers for a photograph of them wearing or using your products. Take a screenshot of positive feedback you’ve received (check it’s ok with the author).
6. Tools
Photograph the tools you use in your business. Which sewing machine you use, how many seam rippers you’ve got, how many different tools you use to make one item/garment, piles of fabric, mountains of thread or your favourite tool (mines a pink pointy thing).
Take a chance and share some behind the scenes pics. Your customers will love it.
There are so many ways you can show your customers what it’s like in your business. It doesn’t have to be just a string of product images. People want to see behind the scenes, so show them all about it.
